At the Halász Clinic, this procedure is performed by our dental hygienists. We recommend tartar removal every 6 months; however, for the very few lucky individuals who brush their teeth very well and are less prone to tartar buildup, an annual cleaning is sufficient. Unless your dental hygienist indicates that an annual cleaning is sufficient, the 6-month interval applies to you. After removing the tartar, the dental hygienists polish your teeth and clean between your teeth using dental floss or polishing strips.

Failure to remove tartar (also known as scaling) leads to gum inflammation and the formation of pockets in the short term, and to gum recession and tooth loss in the long term.

The average duration of an oral hygiene treatment is 40–60 minutes.

The treatment isn't painful; at most, it might be uncomfortable.

Periodontal status:

We refer to this as a periodontal examination, in which we insert a special measuring instrument into the space between the tooth and the gum at six points on each tooth and record the depth of this space (to the nearest millimeter). For a tooth with healthy gums, we typically observe a value between 0 and 3 mm.

If we measure a value greater than 3 mm at a tooth, we refer to it as a pocket. Plaque, tartar, and food debris accumulate in this pocket, allowing bacteria to multiply and irritate the gums and bone, causing inflammation. In these cases, a procedure known as „scaling“ is necessary.

In most cases, the procedure is performed during the second scaling, since the readings obtained during the first scaling would be inaccurate due to the temporary gum inflammation caused by tartar buildup.

The procedure takes 20–30 minutes, in addition to tartar removal and scaling.

This treatment is also performed by our dental hygienists. Local anesthesia may be requested if there is significant inflammation around the teeth, which would make a procedure that is normally painless in healthy gums painful.

Closed circuitrettsleep

Treatment at a Glance: In addition to removing tartar above the gumline, this procedure involves cleaning the tooth surfaces below the gumline, during which we remove subgingival tartar, inflamed tissue, the pocket wall, and the infected cementum layer using hand instruments (curette and spoon).

Scaling is necessary if, during the periodontal examination mentioned above, we find a pocket depth greater than 3 mm next to a tooth—that is, if the removal of tartar alone did not sufficiently reduce the pocket depth. The goal of the treatment is to reduce the periodontal pocket around the teeth to a normal level by removing harmful bacteria and tartar from beneath the gums. This „deep cleaning” is performed only on those teeth where the pocket depth warrants it.

Following the curettage, we will meet again 6–8 weeks later to check on the success of the procedure and determine whether the depth of the pouch has decreased to the desired extent.

This procedure is also performed by our dental hygienists under local anesthesia.

The duration of the treatment depends on how many teeth are involved, but the average treatment time is 45–75 minutes.

The administration of the anesthetic injection causes some discomfort and pain, but the procedure itself is completely painless. Once the anesthetic wears off, most patients report feeling the injection site or experiencing minimal tingling in their gums, but generally, taking pain medication is not even necessary.

After the procedure, once the numbness has worn off, you may eat at any time, provided that you avoid certain foods. Open curettage is a minor surgical procedure performed by periodontists or oral surgeons. This procedure is also performed under local anesthesia using hand instruments. The difference from closed curettage is that incisions are made in the gum—that is, a flap is created—to provide a better view of the area beneath the gum, thereby allowing for more effective cleaning of that area. At the end of the procedure, the surgical site is closed with sutures. We recommend this treatment only if the closed curettage we have performed (even on multiple consecutive occasions) proves ineffective. The latter scenario is very rare; we only need to refer 1–2 patients per year to a periodontist.

The duration of the procedure depends on the number of teeth treated with open curettage, but it takes approximately 20–40 minutes per tooth.

The procedure itself is painless; however, due to the incision in the gums, pain and swelling may occur once the anesthetic wears off, and antibiotic treatment is necessary. Patients generally report taking pain relievers for a few days following the curettage.

Once the numbness wears off, you can eat at any time, provided that you avoid certain foods. Teeth whitening is a process in which the oxygen released from the whitening gel oxidizes the tooth’s natural pigments. The procedures used in dental offices do not damage the teeth.

Teeth whitening at the Halász Clinic is performed by our dental hygienists. The treatment takes approximately 1.5 hours (including tartar removal). The whitening is performed in three consecutive rounds, with a new layer of gum-protecting masking material applied each time.

The results of the treatment depend on the patient’s lifestyle (smoking, coffee, red wine, and the amount of other foods and beverages that stain the teeth) and the natural color of the teeth, but with good oral hygiene, the results can last for years.

The treatment is not painful, but tooth sensitivity may occur toward the end of the procedure. After the treatment, you may experience general tooth sensitivity, as well as sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures or occasional sharp pains on the day of the treatment and the following day. It’s best to schedule the treatment so that you avoid consuming colored foods and beverages for 3 days afterward; only colorless items may be consumed (e.g., milk, sour cream, pasta, plain meat, cheese, etc.).

If you are interested in teeth whitening, please let us know before your treatment begins, as we will incorporate this into your treatment plan and schedule accordingly. Before teeth whitening, any inflammation of the gums must be resolved. It is also important to note that this must be done before any fillings, crowns, or bridge abutments are placed; otherwise, a color discrepancy may occur between the natural tooth structure and the restorations, because the whitening gel is only effective on natural teeth.

Initial scan

This refers to digital impression-taking, during which we record the initial condition. The purpose is to document the shape and position of the original teeth.

Duration: 5–15 minutes

Toothremoval

Tooth extraction is performed under local anesthesia. According to patients, the worst part is the mere thought of having a tooth pulled; thanks to the anesthesia, the procedure itself is painless.

After a tooth extraction, you may experience mild, dull aching pain for up to 24 hours. Applying ice can help reduce any swelling, and if necessary, it is recommended that you take a pain reliever (which is also used for headaches).

We generally recommend avoiding work or exercise that involves strenuous physical exertion for one week following a tooth extraction.

You may experience some pain in the teeth adjacent to the extracted tooth for a while. This is because the bone surrounding those teeth was subjected to trauma during the tooth extraction. The pain is usually mild, more of a discomfort, and goes away within a few days. If it doesn’t, be sure to contact us. You may experience slight oozing of blood during the first 24 hours; this is completely normal.

The wound will heal within 7–10 days, after which no further monitoring is required. The total healing time for a tooth extraction is 3 months. (If the tooth extraction and implant placement are not performed at the same time, you must wait for the healing period to elapse between the two procedures.)

The duration of the procedure depends on the number of teeth to be removed, ranging from 15 to 60 minutes per tooth.

The dentists who perform the procedure will provide information—both verbally and in writing—about what to do and what to avoid after a tooth extraction (eating, brushing your teeth, smoking, etc.).

Bölcsessédental surgeryét

Prior to surgery, tartar is removed to minimize the number of bacteria present in the mouth. In addition, before the surgery, we ask that you fill out a form providing basic information (personal details, contact information, next of kin, and medical history); if you need reading glasses to do so, please bring them with you.

Surgical removal of wisdom teeth is necessary when the tooth is partially or completely buried beneath the gum and bone, making it inaccessible. This is considered a minor surgical procedure; at the Halász Clinic, we perform this treatment under sterile conditions, always beginning the process with tartar removal on the day of surgery and supporting a complication-free recovery with antibiotic prophylaxis. In general, the removal of an upper wisdom tooth causes less discomfort after the procedure than that of a lower wisdom tooth, since the upper teeth are set in much softer bone, and therefore the wisdom tooth located there can be removed with less force.

The surgical removal of wisdom teeth is painless; we perform it under local anesthesia, just like any other procedure. The only difference is in the amount of anesthetic used and where it is administered. Unfortunately, this is accompanied by some discomfort, but the surgery itself does not cause any additional pain. During the procedure, you may perceive sounds, smells, pressure in certain areas, and a feeling of tightness, but you will not feel any pain whatsoever.

Consequences of the procedure (symptoms may vary from person to person; we list the general complaints here): After surgery, the face may swell, feel tight, or become locked shut; the jaw and surgical site may be painful and throbbing. The face and neck area may become bruised, and a fever may develop. The use of pain relievers is recommended (also due to their anti-inflammatory effect); following the extraction of an upper wisdom tooth, most patients experience pain only on the day of surgery (after the anesthetic wears off) and possibly the following day; while for lower wisdom teeth, this can last up to 3–5 days for most patients. In general, it’s important to note that mental work or sedentary activities are not recommended on the day of surgery or the day after. (Physical labor, sports, saunas, and tanning beds are PROHIBITED for 1 week!)

Sleeping on an extra pillow: keeping your head elevated reduces swelling and lowers the risk of postpartum bleeding.

Starting on the 4th or 5th day after surgery, you can resume work that does not involve physical exertion, provided it has been planned in advance. Symptoms generally subside after about 7 days; however, the resolution of any bluish or purplish discoloration varies from person to person and may not necessarily occur within a week.

During the recovery period, in addition to the continuous use of pain relievers, icing the surgical site, and rest, patients experience tolerable, pulling, dull, or throbbing pain. (In other words, this is not sharp, unbearable, or unrelenting pain.)

We use dissolvable sutures, so there is no need to have the stitches removed.

The duration of the procedure depends on the number of teeth to be surgically removed, and is generally about 45–60 minutes per tooth.

We will provide detailed verbal and written instructions regarding the medications prescribed after treatment, as well as important information and steps to take following treatment.

If you have an urgent issue outside of office hours (Mon–Fri: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Fri: 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.) or on the weekend, please send a message to the Halász Clinic’s Facebook page, and our doctors will contact you.

Implant Removal

Prior to surgery, tartar is removed to minimize the number of bacteria present in the mouth. Only a minimal incision in the gum is made on either side of the implant (not always necessary!).

You should expect a recovery period of 3 months; after that, the implant can be reinserted.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and involves about the same level of discomfort as a routine tooth extraction.

We use dissolvable sutures, so there will be no need to have them removed.

The removal procedure takes no more than 15 minutes per implant.

We will provide detailed verbal and written instructions regarding the medications prescribed after treatment, as well as important information and steps to take following treatment.

Tömés

As long as tooth decay affects only the outer layer of the enamel, the process can be stopped by brushing and using special fluoride toothpastes; in this case, drilling the tooth and placing a filling is not necessary. This results in a stronger tooth, with a lower risk of fracture or chipping.

In such cases, we drill out the cavity just as we would with a traditional filling. The inlay itself is fabricated using CAD-CAM technology; to do this, we take a „digital” impression of the tooth in question using a special camera, and at the Halász Clinic, we design it digitally using a machine called „Cerec“ (a brand name often used synonymously with “inlay”) to design it digitally, and then the machine mills the missing portion—which fits the tooth perfectly—from a ceramic block. The dentist then bonds the finished inlay into place.

Depending on the size and location of the tooth structure to be drilled, the treatment takes 90–180 minutes. (This includes approximately 15 minutes for planning and an additional 15 minutes for shaping.)

The procedure requires an anesthetic injection, but other than that, it does not cause any additional pain. Another reason why a tooth often requires root canal treatment is if the tooth has suffered trauma—whether due to external injury or overloading from teeth grinding—but it can also result from a previous deep filling or from the tooth being ground down to the crown, as these factors can cause the tooth to become inflamed and die.

In addition, root canal treatment may be necessary when re-treating a tooth that has previously undergone unsuccessful root canal treatment.

Root canal treatments at the Halász Clinic are performed exclusively by our colleague Dr. Máté Szabó using a microscope, which is why the success rate of these treatments is over 90% (compared to around 60% for traditional root canal treatment). We generally aim to complete both the cleaning of the root canals and the placement of the root filling in a single visit.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia; the duration depends on the number of root canals to be cleaned, but you can generally expect it to take about 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

As a general rule, the success of root canal treatment is determined based on a CT scan taken after half a year to one year; only then can the final filling, ceramic inlay, crown, or bridge be placed.

Before beginning treatment, we will inform you about the possible consequences and potential risks of root canal treatment, tailored to your specific situation. We will provide you with detailed verbal and written information about the medications prescribed after treatment, as well as important information and instructions.

The procedure requires an anesthetic injection, but other than that, it does not cause any additional pain. The reason for this is that there are factors that must be addressed during retreatment; for example, some very common cases include: a root canal file that has previously broken off, root filling material already embedded in the tooth, or an impassable root canal. In certain cases, the factors listed above may even make the procedure impossible; in such cases, possible treatments include tooth extraction or a procedure known as apical resection (see below).

This procedure takes longer than a standard root canal treatment.

Duration of treatment: approx. 2–4 hours per tooth

As a general rule, we can say that the success of a retreatment is determined based on a CT scan taken after half a year to one year; only then can the final filling, ceramic inlay, crown, or bridge be placed.

Resection:

This procedure may be performed following an unsuccessful root canal treatment as a tooth-preserving treatment.

This is a surgical procedure in which, after making an incision in the gum, the tip of the tooth root is removed and the surrounding inflammation is cleaned out, after which the incision is closed with absorbable sutures.

According to the literature, the success rate of resection ranges from 40 to 70%.

The procedure takes 30–60 minutes per tooth.

Prior to surgery, tartar is removed to minimize the number of bacteria present in the mouth. We generally recommend avoiding work or exercise that involves strenuous physical exertion for one week following the surgery.

In most cases, suture removal is not necessary because we use absorbable sutures, but for the 3D type, we use non-absorbable Teflon sutures, so in this case, suture removal is required after 3 weeks.

A follow-up examination is recommended 3 weeks after these surgeries to check that healing is progressing as expected; in some cases, this may be waived.

When you arrive for your surgery, be sure to eat at least a few bites; contrary to popular belief, this can help prevent gagging or nausea and also reduces the likelihood of feeling unwell. The term „implantation“ refers to the placement of this “screw.” Ideally, this does not need to be preceded by preparatory surgery (bone grafting, removal of residual inflammation, etc.) nor does it need to be followed by other procedures (gum correction surgery, exposure surgery, etc.).

When you arrive for your surgery, be sure to eat at least a few bites; contrary to popular belief, this can help prevent gagging or nausea and also reduces the likelihood of feeling unwell. You may drink coffee, tea, or water before surgery, but please note that, depending on the nature of the procedure, you may not always be able to use the restroom during the operation.

If you are taking any medication, please continue to take it as previously discussed, or stop taking it before surgery. If you have not already done so prior to surgery, please contact our colleague as soon as possible regarding this matter.

The procedure takes place in a room specifically designed for this purpose, where the temperature is cooler (19–21 degrees) than in the other examination rooms. For this reason, we provide a blanket and usually recommend wearing layers of clothing.

Prior to surgery, tartar is removed to help minimize the number of bacteria present in the mouth.

As part of the preoperative preparation, we also administer medications (anticoagulants, antibiotics, pain relievers) to help minimize complications both during and after surgery. In addition, before surgery, we ask that you fill out a form providing basic information (personal details, contact information, next of kin, and medical history); if you need reading glasses to do so, please bring them with you.

The procedure is performed under anesthesia, so you shouldn’t feel any pain other than that associated with the anesthesia itself. During the surgery, we make an incision in the gum (in some cases, flapless implantation may be possible, but this requires a sufficient quantity and quality of bone), thereby exposing the bone. We then use special drills to create a socket in the bone where the implant will be screwed in, followed by closing the gum with dissolvable sutures.

The surgery itself takes 30 to 60 minutes per implant.

Recovery takes 3–4 months (6–9 months in cases combined with certain bone grafts)

You may experience slight spotting during the first 24 hours; this is normal. We generally recommend avoiding work or exercise that involves strenuous physical exertion for one week following the surgery.

We provide detailed verbal and written information about the medications prescribed after treatment, as well as what you need to know and what steps to take, because this varies from person to person.

If you experience pain, a burning sensation, or a feeling of tightness not immediately after surgery but days or weeks later, please be sure to contact us, as this could be a sign of inflammation.

Immediate Implantation

A specialized type of implant procedure in which the tooth extraction and implant placement are performed in a single visit. In this case, a minor bone graft is also performed. Then, 2 hours after the procedure, we fit the implant with a temporary crown (this crown is shorter than the other teeth, as you MUST NOT bite down on this tooth during the healing period).

This is only possible under well-defined parameters; if this is an option, our colleague will bring it to your attention during the consultation.

For the bone graft, we need bone from the site of the upper wisdom teeth; we use a chisel and hammer for this, which, while not painful, may cause some discomfort due to the noise and vibration.

In all other respects, it is the same as a simple implantation.

Implant Release

It may happen that, during implant placement, the implant does not seat firmly enough in the bone, so the implant can only heal in a closed procedure, with the gum margin sutured closed. In this case, the implant heals protected beneath the gum tissue, and it is not possible to fabricate a temporary crown.

Implants also heal in a closed procedure following major bone grafts, where the implant can only be placed after the healing period has elapsed, and this may also occur in cases of minor bone grafts, where the dental implant is placed at the same time as the bone graft.

Once the healing period for closed-healing implants has elapsed (3–9 months), the implant must be „exposed.“ At this point, we expose the implant by making an incision in the gum. Afterward—depending on the specific case—we take the final impression for the permanent dental restoration either immediately or after 2 months.

At the Halász Clinic, we also perform this procedure under sterile conditions, always beginning the process with tartar removal on the day of the surgery and, in some cases, supplementing it with a few days of antibiotic therapy to ensure a complication-free recovery.

Release time: 15–40 minutes per implant.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia; patients do not typically report any pain after the treatment, nor does swelling usually occur. Pain relievers may be taken after the treatment, but according to patient reports, this is not usually necessary.

ThuMucous Membrane Management

Mucosal management refers to the surgical correction of the gums. This may be due to the loss of the gingival margin or what is known as “tight gingiva” (the part of the gums that adheres tightly to the teeth and implants, thereby protecting them).

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so it is completely painless.

During the procedure, we make an incision at the site where gum grafting is needed and secure the original gum tissue there with sutures, and we transplant a piece of mucosa from the palate or a special material suitable for mucosal grafting (depending on which is needed, in accordance with the surgical technique), which we also secure with sutures.

If the wound originates from the palate, we close it using wound glue or a special collagen sponge and sutures.

In the first few days after surgery, you may experience some post-operative bleeding; this is completely normal. Until the palate has fully healed (approximately 7–10 days), it may be sensitive to hot or spicy foods and beverages.

Duration of the procedure: 30–60 minutes per area.

We will provide detailed verbal and written information regarding the medications prescribed after treatment, as well as important information and instructions to follow.

Printoutétel

By "taking an impression," we mean the process of creating a mold of a tooth or implant in the mouth in some way, which allows dental technicians to fabricate the desired crown or bridge. An impression can be taken for either a temporary or a permanent restoration.

In terms of method, it can be digital, traditional, or a combination of the two.

The process consists of several consecutive steps, including photography, a digital 3D scan of the face, a 3D scan of the teeth/implants, and the recording of various facial reference points. Traditional impressions are also required for these procedures to ensure accuracy.

If you are having your front teeth replaced, an old photo of you smiling can help us determine what your future dental restoration will look like, so please bring one with you to your appointment.

In addition, if you have any requests or ideas, or if you would like to make any changes to the temporary plan, please discuss them with your doctor here.

Duration: 20–60 minutes per tooth or implant (this varies widely depending on factors such as location, gum condition, etc.)

If the fingerprint is taken for a temporary replacement, it will be issued that day or the next day. (In certain cases, we may deviate from this.)

If the impression is finalized, the replacement will be delivered in about 2 weeks on average. In some cases, it may even happen the same day, but please check with your treating physician to see if this is possible in your case, and if so, schedule an appointment accordingly. At that time, you must pay 60% of the final replacement cost, with the remainder due upon final delivery.

Pótlás/KCrown/Bridge átaddigging

This step follows the impression-taking process, during which we place the temporary or permanent restoration prepared by the dental technicians onto the teeth or implants.

Anesthesia is not necessary for implants, since the implant itself is not sensitive, and it causes at most a sensation of tightness in the gums, which should subside within 10 minutes; if this does not happen, the type of restoration must be modified.
